This bed is a beautiful grand mahogany piece with a rich history! Originally from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Blair on Ross Avenue in Dallas, this bed reflects the timeless beauty of Neo-classical design, inspired by Greek and Roman forms. Its clean lines, stately pillars, and subtle scroll details make it a true standout.
Sibyl Kell often admired it during her visits to the Blair home while attending the Hockaday School for Girls in the 1920s. She would later fondly recall both the bed and life inside the “grand house.”
The bed was passed down to Josephine Maxwell Blair Hughes in 1940, eventually making its way to New York City, where it remained until her passing in 1990. That same year, Wiley Blair III generously donated the piece to the Wichita County Heritage Society / Kell House Museum.
