This piece is heavy gilded brass with acanthus leaves, and egg-dart details. Acanthus leaf motifs date back to Roman times, the oldest known example dating to 450 - 420 B.C. Used for hundreds of years, the motif saw a resurgence during the Renaissance (15th & 16th centuries).
